JAVA SITE VISIT 2008

  • 2015/03/22

As a part of YKIP-YKIDS’s commitment to providing the best services for the families of the Bali Bombing victims, we conducted a three-day site visit to East Java. The field and administrative officer (FOA), Sri Damayanti, visited seven families and eleven children during this trip. They are located in Banyuwangi, Jember, Mojokerto, Surabaya, Sidoarjo and Sitobondo.

Based on our monitoring in the schools, we found that some children are very active in class and have been able to maintain their good class records; other children are still quite passive, and some are prone to misbehave. The teachers are very concerned with those children who are passive or misbehaving as they know the children have lost one of their parents in the bomb blast in Kuta in 2002.

As a single parent left behind by their husband, most women who are also the mother of KIDS’s children keep struggling to move on with their life especially when they have to fight everyday to meet their family daily needs. Some of them keep running their small businesses with very little business capital. However, with strong motivation, they are able to survive and feed their children. All of them say a big thank you to all the donors who have given their enormous help for them through YKIP-YKIDS. This support has enabled them to have an assurance that their children will be able to study through university.
