Australian Consulate General in Bali held the sixth anniversary of the Bali bombing 2002. Representative of Indonesian, Australian and other nations who lost people in this tragedy gathered together in the memorial garden of Australian Consulate. The commemoration anniversary was opened by the consular General. Australian ambassador Bill Farmer read a statement from Prime Minister Kevin Rudd during the ceremony. “The 12 October 2002 tragedy shocked Australia. For those who lost loved ones, life will never be the same,” the statement said. “We think of the families and friends of the victims. Our thoughts and sympathies will always be with them.” The Bali’s governor, Made Pastika said the bomb 2002 attacks turned the paradise Bali to hell.

Made Riatiasih, the widow of I Made Wija, with her daughter, Ni Made Rai Y who is assisted by YKIP-YKIDS through the KIDS project, was invited to come to the commemoration. Together with other invitations, they placed the bouquets of flowers at the wooden cross to commemorate the tragedy. This is their first time to come to the anniversary at the consulate as they used to come to the Ground Zero in Kuta.

At the end of the anniversary, Made and Rai Y were very busy with the interview from the media. The most popular questions asked by the reporters was about their feeling on the execution plan of the bombers and they said that they did not want to get involve in the execution policy from the government. The most important thing they would like to do is how to move on their life for better future. More stories about Made and Rai can be read on stories.

After the commemoration anniversary was closed, Made and her daughters, Rai and Ayu, assisted by FOA YKIP-YKIDS, went to the Ground Zero in Kuta. They prayed and placed their offering at the monuments remembering the day they lost the husband and the father.
