The solar lamp project was held for the fourth time in Seraya! Conducted on 27 Augustus 2019, Jonas Fischer and his family met 20 of the Seraya sponsored children to assemble a solar lamp for everyday use.
The Seraya Solar Lamp project was initially the final school project of Jonas Fischer, who decided to go all the way from Switzerland to Bali. The project aimed to inform and share knowledge about the use of the sun as the renewable energy, and at the same time to provide the children in Seraya with lamps bright enough for studying. Jonas has finished his final project and got the best grade for his initiative in Seraya. However, Jonas and his family decided to continue the Solar Lamp Project in Seraya.
Before the project began, some students from earlier project shared their thoughts about the previous project and its result. One student said that the lamp had helped her a lot to finish her homework. Other stories showed how useful the solar lamps were during the electricity blackout: functioning as the only source of light, the lamps have chased away the children’s fear of the darkness.
To start with, Jonas explained the parts of the lamp and their function. Jonas was assisted by two students from the previous project, Pandita and Widi, to help the children to assemble the solar lamps. The children were having so much fun when they tried their best to construct the lamp. It didn’t take long to get them ready.
The most fun part was decorating the lamp by choosing from tons of ornaments provided. Excitedly, the children showed their creativity and artistic talents. By the end of the project, we had 20 beautifully decorated solar lamps!
Thank you the Fischers for recreating the project in Seraya. We appreciate the help and undoubtedly the lamps are useful for the children.
