Australian Consulate General in Bali held a ceremony to commemorate the loss of life, and acknowledge those who survived and the families of victims on 1 October 2008. The 2005 Bali bombings were a series of explosions that occurred on October 1, 2005, in Bali, Indonesia. Bombs exploded at two sites in Jimbaran and Kuta, both in south Bali. Twenty-three people were killed, including three bombers.

This ceremony was attended by some 40 people including Indonesian survivors and relatives of victims, Australian volunteers and medical staff. ndonesian survivor Heru Djatmiko, who lost his mother Djuni Tresniati and 18-year-old nephew Arthur Calvino in the attacks, led a prayer of remembrance. Putu Swadesy who was a baby sitter of Heru Djatmiko and Juliet Tumewu’s children when the bomb went off on October 1, 2005 in Café Menega Jimbaran also attended this ceremony. Because of the bomb, She spent seven months in Australia learning how to walk again and still having physiotherapy to correct her stilted walk, as well as hypnotherapy, acupuncture and massage.
