Unlike other children who has the privilege to get anything they want from their parents; Irma simply could not do that. She realized that her family economic condition will not allow her to do that. Then she decided to help the parents by becoming a flower picker in her neighbour garden. Become a flower picker is not an easy task for a young girl, but that is the only way she can add some rupiah to the day earning.
Heidy Hornberger is one of YKIP’s donors who are supporting YKIP since 2004. She is among the first donors in our KEMBALI Project. Heidi created Heidi Circle, a circle of donors who supports our KEMBALI students. Now Heidy and her circle sponsored about 40 children from various levels of education.
What was so special about April? For us, April 2019 was so special because we had the 4th quarter distribution in this month. We started the distribution from Tejakula on April 11 and finished in Sukawati on April 29.
I feel so grateful for all the family support, and I’d like to extend special thanks to YKIP for their support, so I could obtain my degree. I live in a very small house in Kuta and can you believe how tiny my room is? Yet, it could hold four people including myself.
This is a very difficult time for all of us. The outbreak of COVID-19 has affected so many people around the world, as WHO declared the outbreak a global health concern and characterized COVID-19 as a pandemic in March. As a response to this, YKIP has taken some necessary steps to prevent the spread of the virus:
As the Indonesian government advised all the citizens to halt the spread of the coronavirus by practicing social distancing, YKIP staff started to work from home on Monday, 23 March 2020 until further notice. All staff are working remotely from their own home and only go to the office for an urgent matter.
YKIP temporarily stopped all field-related work, including surveys and monitoring, starting the beginning of March. The last field work was the vocational candidate survey. We will continue to do our field work as soon when the government advises that it is safe to work as normal.
It is with a heavy heart that YKIP decided to postpone the 4th quarter donation distribution. It was scheduled mid-April, but due to more reported cases of COVID-19 infection in the region, the distribution is rescheduled until it is conducive to safe social activity. We realize that this decision will be very hard for all of us, especially for the children in our KEMBALI program, however it is necessary to prevent further spreading of the virus and for the safety of our sponsored children and their community.
We will do our best to minimize the effect of the COVID-19 outbreak to everyone working with YKIP.
