Artawan: Passion for Literature and Fashion

28 April 2025

In Karangasem, one of the KEMBALI Scholarship recipients, Artawan, made a name for himself by winning a national short story writing competition last year. On top of that, he also secured first place in a national poetry competition—both organized by Lomba Seni Indonesia, an institution known for hosting reputable literary and arts competitions across Indonesia. In addition to these impressive achievements, Artawan also demonstrated his public speaking skills by winning a speech competition at his school.

Besides participating in national competitions, Artawan is also actively involved in various school activities. He serves as a coordinator for an extracurricular club, is a member of the student council, and contributes regularly to the school magazine.

Artawan’s Interest in Literature

Since he was young, Artawan has been deeply interested in literature. He has always loved reading short stories and poems. In elementary school, he began composing his first poems and short stories, exploring his imagination through words. By the time he reached junior high school, Artawan had grown more confident and started participating in school competitions. His victory in a school-level contest launched him further, opening the door to prestigious national competitions.

In July 2024, Artawan competed in the Olimpiade Sastra Nasional, a prestigious national literature competition in Indonesia, and impressively secured fourth place out of 258 participants. This was an outstanding feat, especially considering the competitors came from all corners of Indonesia. He didn’t stop there. Determined to continue growing, he went on to compete at the national level once again. In October 2024, he won first place in the Lomba Seni Sastra Indonesia (Indonesian Literary Arts Competition) for both poetry and short story categories—an extraordinary double win that showcased his literary talent.

In addition to his passion for writing, Artawan is also keenly interested in public speaking. He confidently participated in a speech contest held during the mid-semester break at his school and earned third place. This achievement further boosted his self-assurance and fueled his enthusiasm for public speaking.

Beyond his talents in literature and public speaking, Artawan also has a budding interest in fashion. It all began in 2022 when he was chosen to represent his class in a traditional clothing fashion show. Although he was initially hesitant to take part, he gave it his all—and the results were remarkable. He won second place in the competition. Since then, his interest in fashion has grown steadily, and he continues to explore this creative field with enthusiasm.

“I am lucky enough to be able to explore my interests and eventually turn them into achievements. Not all students get the same opportunities as I do. Thank you for the scholarship,” Artawan concluded humbly.

YKIP is incredibly proud of Artawan’s achievements. We are deeply grateful to all the generous donors who support YKIP’s Scholarship Program. Your contributions make it possible for students like Artawan to pursue their passions and reach their full potential.
