Wahyuni: A Dream Come True

30 January 2026

Wahyuni has always dreamed of turning her passion for food into a career. After finishing vocational high school, majoring in food production, she took the next step by continuing her vocational training through the Vocational Scholarship Program and graduated in 2023. For six months, she studied on campus before completing her job training at a five-star resort in Ubud. After receiving her certificate, she was ready to enter the workforce.

Following her graduation, she continued working as a daily worker at the resort for several months. She later took an opportunity to work in a restaurant in Ubud.

With a long-standing interest in pastry and baking, securing a position in the pastry kitchen was truly a dream come true. She worked on a wide variety of pastries and baked goods, including desserts and chocolates. Although desserts and chocolate are her main interests, she is always willing to learn new skills and occasionally supports the hot kitchen during the restaurant’s busy periods.

“I’m grateful to have a steady monthly income, but I also dream of having my own business. Since I was in senior high school, I’ve sold sponge cakes to my neighbours during the Balinese holidays. I want to grow this business and open my own cake and bakery shop in the future,” Wahyuni shared about her aspirations.

How Life Changed After Graduation

After landing her dream job, Wahyuni’s life changed significantly. She now earns a stable income and is covered by insurance provided by her workplace. In addition, she is able to save part of her monthly income to upgrade kitchen equipment at home. Despite her busy work schedule, she continues to sell cakes to her neighbours. As the holidays approach, she receives many orders for her steamed sponge cakes and chiffon cakes. During major holidays, the demand can be overwhelming, and she sometimes has to turn down orders.

Beyond financial stability and cake orders, Wahyuni can now buy things she once only dreamed of as a child. She also helps her parents by contributing to their monthly expenses, ensuring they do not need to work too hard to meet their needs. She even helps cover some ceremonial expenses.

Another significant achievement for Wahyuni was helping her parents support her younger sister’s education by contributing to a one-year vocational training program. She was a proud older sister when her sister graduated. This support was not only financial assistance but also a reflection of her strong devotion to her family.

“Having another chance to continue my education truly means a lot to me. Combined with determination, it can take you to a level you never imagined before. Many people looked down on my family and me, but I was determined to become the best version of myself. With the opportunity to receive one year of training in the food and beverage sector, I was able to get a good job and support my family. This is how education and perseverance changed my life. Thank you for giving me the scholarship,” Wahyuni concluded.

We are incredibly proud of Wahyuni and her achievements and wish her continued success in both her career and future business. We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to all sponsors and donors who help make the Vocational Scholarship Program possible.
