One of our sponsored students in Tejakula, Endi, has found a way to use social media to his advantage. With his talent for sales and his expertise in using TikTok, he has shown that courage, determination, and thoughtful approach can turn social media into a positive force. Thanks to his efforts, he has been able to earn an income and even renovate his bedroom through product endorsements.
Endi comes from a modest family in Tejakula, where he lives with his parents and older siblings. From the moment he was first exposed to social media, he began to see its potential as more than just a source of entertainment. He explored ways to utilise it to generate income.
In the beginning, he joined a video-sharing platform where he could earn money by watching videos and inviting others to join. However, after some time, it became increasingly difficult to recruit new members.
He later discovered another way to earn money online through an affiliate scheme. He opened a TikTok account and began participating in an affiliate program.
“At first, I only posted pictures of beautiful scenery with quotes and background music. Then, I started promoting some men’s skincare products. During the first few weeks, I could only add a basket icon to my videos. When the views started to increase, I began receiving free products for endorsement. For several weeks, I gained many views and generated quite a significant daily income, but later it slowed down. I then changed my strategy to promoting daily wear. It became a very busy time, and I received many samples to endorse,” Endi explained.
With the income he earned, he was able to renovate his bedroom, an achievement he is very proud of.
“Then, I left for Denpasar to join job training. Because I was very busy, I seldom posted endorsement videos. However, I still earned some income from the affiliate program. Now that I am back home, I plan to resume my activities and hope to match my previous income.”
As a young adult, interacting safely on social media is not always easy. There are potential risks when engaging with people online. Fortunately, Endi has never encountered any major issues.
“I never experienced any problems in my interactions on social media. Most of the people I interact with are supportive. I am aware that the internet can be a dangerous place, but thanks to the Digital Literacy Workshop held by YKIP and UNBI last year, I gained valuable insights. I learned that our digital footprint lasts forever and can be used against us if we don’t interact wisely on the internet. I also learned the importance of protecting personal data and being cautious with unfamiliar links. Thank you for providing this knowledge so I can use the internet safely,” Endi shared.
YKIP is proud of Endi’s achievements and wishes him the best for his future business.
