Vocational Students: Ready for the Workforce

07 October 2024

This year, the vocational scholarship program is sponsoring several students who have begun their studies in vocational institutions. While the new students dive into their coursework, you might be curious about what the older students are up to. Those who received the scholarship to study tourism completed their training in late June 2024, but their graduation ceremony is set for October.

Working While Awaiting the Graduation Ceremony

Mahenda, who completed her studies in Monarch Bali, Gianyar, landed a job just a few days after passing her final exam. She now works in a vegan restaurant near the centre of Ubud, where she serves as a daily worker. Mahenda enjoys her role and is excited about this new chapter in her life.

Mahenda’s classmate, Sriyani, followed a similar path. Sriyani applied for a job just a few days after her final exam and has been working as a waitress for a Belgian restaurant in Ubud for two months. She loves her job for both the income and the wealth of new experiences it offers. “I learn a lot here. I gained skills as a waitress on campus, but this job allows me to explore even more, especially since I sometimes work in the bar section. I believe there will always be a chance to learn and refine our skills if we’re open to them.” Sriyani proudly shared with YKIP about her job and the valuable lessons she’s learned in her workplace.

Runarta, another student who trained as a butler, now works for a hotel in Ubud. He started as a daily worker two months ago and has since secured an employment contract. Previously, Runarta completed his job training in the Housekeeping Department of a five-star hotel in Kuta. Now, he is thrilled to get back to his intended profession as a butler. “I am happy to work as a butler in this hotel and gain more experience and skills. The senior staff are also very kind and always willing to help me if I encounter any challenges in my work.”

In addition to the three stories above, we are excited to share that all students who completed their training in tourism are now employed. Some have secured positions at the same places where they did their job training, while others are exploring new opportunities. YKIP is delighted to see that their training has helped them land their desired jobs, even before graduation.
