After completing senior high school, the former KEMBALI Scholarship recipients embarked on new journeys. While some chose to enter the workforce, others seized the opportunity to continue their education, with several pursuing higher degrees at university.
YKIP offers scholarships to support students in their university studies, but, unfortunately, the number of scholarships available doesn’t meet the demand. Many students who don’t receive YKIP university scholarships remain determined to pursue their dreams through other funding options. We are excited to share the stories of Zahwa, Anggreni, and Sujana, who are studying at the university outside the YKIP Scholarship Program.
Zahwa comes from a humble family on a small island near Denpasar. Sponsored through the KEMBALI Scholarship program since Junior High School, she continued her studies at a vocational school, focusing on office administration.
From a young age, Zahwa aspired to attend university. Interested in psychology, she aimed to work in the psychology-related field as a school counsellor. After thorough research, she applied to the faculty of education at Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha in Singaraja, majoring in counselling.
In Indonesia, students are allowed to choose up to three majors for their university studies. However, they can only be accepted in one of the three choices. Thus Zahwa decided to choosing another major in addition to counselling. Growing up in a coastal village sparked Zahwa’s interest in fishery. Watching the fishermen around her home on Serangan Island inspired her to select aquaculture as her second choice.
While applying to the university, Zahwa also applied for the government scholarship, KIP Kuliah. KIP Kuliah is a government-funded scholarship for underprivileged students to continue their education at the university.
After taking the entrance exam, Zahwa was accepted into the Aquaculture program and awarded a scholarship. She then moved to Singaraja in North Bali to pursue her studies. “I am thrilled that I got the chance to study aquaculture. It’s very different from high school, but I am prepared. I review the syllabus in advance to stay ahead of the materials.” she shared
“I am grateful for the support I received from YKIP during my school year. With my school fees covered, my mother could save more money for the other expenses not covered by the government scholarship. Thank you for the past sponsorship – it has allowed me to continue my education at university. I promise to complete my studies and become an aquaculture expert someday!”
“Ever since I was young, I’ve always dreamed of becoming a teacher. I find the profession fascinating because it allows us to shape the future by helping the younger generation gain the knowledge and skills they need.”
Anggreni, from Seraya in East Bali, has been a KEMBALI Scholarship recipient since elementary school. Through dedication and hard work, she consistently maintained her academic performance, securing her scholarship throughout her education. She actively participated in various school activities, and her efforts paid off when she graduated from senior high school with commendable marks.
Initially, Anggreni aspired to teach at a vocational school and sought campuses specializing in vocational teacher training. However, the nearest campus was too far from her home, making attendance impractical. As a result, she decided to pursue a degree in elementary education at STKIP Karangasem.
Anggreni has found her time at university to be both enjoyable and fulfilling. Her passion for teaching enhances her love for the subjects she studies. Beyond academics, she appreciates the chance to expand her network and connect with others in her field. Anggreni is optimistic that the following eight semesters will be both fun and meaningful.
“I’ve got to give my huge thanks to YKIP for supporting my education. The scholarship has made it possible for me to complete my studies, and I’m super grateful for the quarterly transportation allowances. I’ve been saving those for university,” Anggreni said.
She is also in the process of applying for the KIP Kuliah and is excitedly waiting for the announcement.
Remember Jana, one of our sponsored students in Bangli Regency? We shared his inspiring journey during the National Scout gathering in 2023. Now, he’s chasing his dream at Warmadewa University, majoring in Architecture.
Jana comes from a historic village in Bangli, one of the oldest in the regency, famous for its distinctive architecture. Growing up among these unique buildings, Jana’s curiosity was ignited early on, fueling his fascination with how they were built and ultimately inspiring him to pursue a degree in architecture.
In April, he sat for the university entrance exam and applied for a government’s KIP Kuliah. He began his studies in early September and received the scholarship confirmation just a week later. Alongside his classes, Jana also works at a contractor’s office in Badung Regency.
“I’ve always dreamed of becoming a successful architect. That’s why I decided to work while studying, even with the government scholarship. I’m really excited about the next eight semesters and plan to give my all until graduation. My goal is to use my skills to improve the village’s roads and infrastructure. I hope to team up with the village government to enhance our surroundings while preserving its historical layout and rich heritage,” Jana shared about his future plans.
YKIP is incredibly proud to see students like Jana dedicated to advancing their education. Let’s cheer them on as they work towards their goals!
